It’s never too late to learn

NMIT is set to deliver Edval Boa Morte Santos a new career at age 46.

Santos has been a martial arts instructor for the past 31 years and moved to Australia from his native Brazil 20 years ago.

But he is no stranger to the electrical field, having followed a course in Brazil in his teens.

“I worked with my father who was a builder,” he said. “That was until I travelled overseas.”

After earning his living in Australia by teaching capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, Santos decided it was time for a change and completed his electrical appreticeship at NMIT last year.

“I have decided I would like to do something new and start again. I want to make a better life and be a good example to my kids,” says the father of six.

Because English is not his first language, completing the pre-appreticeship was not easy, Santos says, but he appreciates the help he recieved at NMIT.

“Everyone was very helpful and I was very happy with the support they gave me,” he said.

Dear Community,

As I get closer to celebrating my 20 years spreading Capoeira and the Afro-Brazlian culture in Melbourne, I reflect on all the wonderful people I had the chance to meet and all of the amazing things I have accomplished.

I also humbly realize that there are many aspects that I can do better and I am taking on that challenge with great pleasure.

I am excited to reunite with many of you and look forward to strengthening & spreading my rich Afro-Brazlian roots in Melbourne.

Don’t hesitate to be in touch, come visit and bring your friends & families.

I am creating many new programs (music, dance, fitness, language) for 2013 and can’t wait to share it all with you!

Wishing you all so much Axé for this new year,

Mestre Val Boa Morte
